Innovative engineering solutions since 1958

Stephenson Engineering is a long-established engineering company, specialising in the batch production of machined components and fabrications. We serve both domestic and international customers from a seven-acre site in Atherton near Manchester, where our extensive facilities range from the conventional to the state of the art.

Over the past 60 years, we’ve developed a broad and loyal customer base, through offering general engineering services and specialist support to subsea energy, offshore, mining, civil, and transport companies.

We offer a ‘build to print’ subcontract service, or a full turnkey package depending your needs, and our obsession with engineering quality is matched only by our reputation for flawless customer service.

Harry Stephenson & Sons Ltd was founded in 1908, supplying collieries with wire ropes, timber chocks and coal cutters. In 1958 – renamed as Arthur Stephenson Engineers – the company started to focus on engineering, and for the next 30 years produced machined fabrications for the mining, valve, boilermaker and construction industries. When the market shifted to subsea oil and gas, Stephenson Engineering shifted with it, to serve key participants in a rapidly expanding sector.

Moving to our current location at Atherton, Manchester in 1995 gave Stephenson Engineering the opportunity to build new workshops and move into the CNC age. Over the past 30 years, we have invested heavily in our plant, machinery and people to give us a World-class manufacturing facility.

April 2024 saw the installation of our latest large-capacity machining center. The Dörries Scharmann CNC Vertical borer compliments our current CNC vertical boring machines and multiple milling centres. This purchase marks another commitment to large-capacity manufacturing here at Stephenson Engineering.

Our continued investment in principal machines enables the company to boost production capacity and meet ever increasing customer demands for our high-integrity machined fabrications and components. Investment in plant and facilities will not only benefit our customers, but also creates additional job vacancies within the business.
