Pull-in heads
We have undertaken the manufacture of a large quantity of pull-in heads for various customer applications which will see service world-wide.
Pull-in heads are specialised mechanical devices attached to the end of subsea cables, umbilical or pipelines to facilitate their installation and connection to offshore or subsea infrastructure.
Our multi-capability service allows us to machine, weld, load-test and paint to customer specifications.

Subsea umbilical clamps
A subsea umbilical provides the essential connections between surface facilities, such as offshore platforms or floating production units, and subsea equipment, including control systems, valves and wellheads.
Clamps are mechanical devices used to secure, support and restrain subsea tethers, umbilical cables or associated equipment. They help maintain the correct position and alignment of the tether, manage mechanical loads and prevent excessive movement, vibration or damage during installation and operation in the subsea environment.
Stephenson Engineering are leaders in the supply of complex clamping, connection and handling equipment for subsea umbilical and cable applications.

Loader arms for excavating machines
Loader arms are structural components fitted to excavating and earthmoving vehicles, such as wheel loaders and backhoe loaders, that support and control the movement of attachments.
They transfer hydraulic forces to raise, lower, tilt and position the attachment during digging, lifting, loading and material handling operations. Designed to withstand high mechanical loads, impact forces and repeated operating cycles, loader arms provide the strength, stability and controlled movement required for safe and efficient operation.
Pictured are some large loader arms undergoing CNC machining by one of our overhead travelling gantry centres.

Structural nodes and supports
In structural engineering, nodes represent connection points between beams, columns and other structural elements. In subsea engineering, nodes may represent connection points, junctions or interfaces between equipment and pipework.
We have undertaken many significant projects for both National and International civil engineering infrastucture, and in this example we CNC machined the large structural nodes as part of the external steel skeleton of Cannon Street Station, London

Subsea mud mats
Subsea mud mats are structural support frames installed on the seabed to provide a stable foundation for subsea equipment, such as manifolds, control modules, umbilical termination assemblies and other offshore structures. They distribute the equipment's weight over a larger seabed area, reducing bearing pressure and preventing excessive settlement or sinking into soft seabed soils. Mud mats also help maintain equipment stability and alignment during installation and operation, ensuring the safe and reliable performance of subsea energy infrastructure.
This image shows a mud mat weighing in at over 30 tonnes during manufacture in our workshops, prior to final coating.

Bridge bearings
Bridge bearings are structural components installed between a bridge’s deck and its supporting piers or abutments. Their primary purpose is to transfer loads from the bridge superstructure to the supporting structure while accommodating movements and rotations caused by temperature changes, traffic loading, shrinkage, creep and other environmental factors.
By allowing controlled movement and reducing unwanted stresses, bridge bearings help maintain the structural integrity, stability and long-term performance of bridges.
The image shows steel bridge bearings manufactured for use within the UK national rail network.

Test frames and equipment
Rolling out of our Manchester facility is two high-integrity machined fabrications. These items are part of a series of test frames built to our clients’ specification and manufactured entirely in-house by Stephenson Engineering.
Measuring 4 metres across and weighing in at over 7.5 tonnes each, they are a good example of our expertise in large structure build with close tolerance machining.

Subsea Umbilical Termination Assemblies (UTAs)
Umbilical Termination Assemblies (or Units) provide a secure interface between subsea umbilical and subsea control systems or equipment. They terminate, support and protect the individual hydraulic lines, electrical cables, fibre-optic connections and chemical injection lines within the umbilical, allowing the safe and reliable transfer of power, control signals and fluids.
UTAs are designed to withstand harsh subsea conditions, maintain connection integrity and facilitate the installation, operation, inspection and maintenance of subsea energy infrastructure.
Our image shows multiple units manufactured entirely in-house awaiting transport to customer.

Steam locomotive frames
We have worked within the rail industry for many years, producing a wide variety of components, from shear plates to steam locomotive motion. We hold welding accreditation to EN 15085 for the manufacture of welded rail structures and are approved suppliers to leading rail OEMs.
Pictured here are large chassis side frame plates for a heritage steam locomotive restoration.

High integrity structures
We are supporting clients across various energy sources, manufacturing high integrity frames that help transport, produce and deliver in both land-based and offshore applications.
Our image shows a series of structures manufactured for subsea operation - built for critical service in harsh and demanding environments.
